Rumor of Richard Fortus departure untrue

On January 20th, 2005, a rumor was posted on a Nine Inch Nails board that GNR's
guitarist Richard Fortus had left the band to join Nine Inch Nails, which
will be launching a tour in March. Fortus, an energetic and charismatic
guitarist, had been with GNR since replacing Paul Tobias (Huge) back in
2002. The rumor also appeared on Blabbermouth, a popular website that lists
rumors in the rock world.
The latest rumor of Fortus' departure hit GNR fans hard. Afterall, this
would mean two members had left the band. (Last year, fans were stunned when
GNR frontman Axl Rose announced that lead guitarist Buckethead had left the
band. His replacement has still not been announced). After this latest
rumor, fans began wondering if GNR still existed and if the long-awaited
album, Chinese Democracy, would ever come out.
However, GNR's manager, Merck Mercuriadis, who is also CEO of Sanctuary
Group, told mygnrforum that the rumor is untrue. ''There is no truth to
it,'' he said.
