Nightrain Encore:
Robin Solo, Paradise City I was not sure what to expect, as I
hadn't seen the band in almost 10 years but I was pleasantly surprised. They
sounded better than any GNR show I had seen in the past, although I have to
admit, visually, it was awkward getting used to the new band. But no doubt,
they can play. Highlights for me were Mr.
Brownstone, Madagascar (great
song), The Blues was great, as was
Rocket Queen. Knocking on Heaven's door is a
milder, less rocking version than they had played in the past and they
didn't play My Michelle, as they had at other shows. They also did not play
the intro to November Rain - just straight to the drum intro. But there were
really no complaints from me - I was impressed with how good they sounded
and will be going to see them again on New Year's Eve in San Jose. The energy was great and they really
seemed to be enjoying themselves. Axl joked that he was
"happy there were a lot of gamblers here
tonight. Put your money down and go for it. Did you guys think we were going
to show up?" The arena was maybe half-full.
MixMaster Mike is good at what he does but he was a bit out of his element.
The crowd was pretty mellow until GNR came out and then the place went
berserk. We missed CKY but it sounds like that was a good thing. |
